WASHINGTON — More than 1 million Americans are bracing for a harrowing, post-Christmas jolt as extended federal unemployment benefits come to a sudden halt this weekend, with potentially significant implications for the recovering U.S. economy. Thank goodness the job market is doing so well under Obama or these people would be in trouble!

I understand people are having tough times but this continued nanny state isn't helping anyone in the longterm. Why work when you can sit on your rear for close to 2 years and collect a check? Heck, if you have a couple of kids you can stay home, not pay day care and come out ahead. Unemployment is a good thing but giving it for almost two years does not instill an urgencey for people to find work and in some cases it might be financially better to be unemployed, stay home with the kids and still collect a check. I hear a lot of people out there on unemployment refusing jobs because they pay a couple bucks an hour less than they used to make, maybe this will make people less picky about which jobs they will take.

1.3 new Americans off the books. Obama's unemployment rate will soon be at ZERO! Forward? Let's ask these folks.

This should be looked at by region or maybe state by state. MN seems to be doing fairly well, although wages are lower for jobs gained. Once again we will see poor job growth in strongly conservative states/regions.

They speak of the new jobs. But do they tell us if they are full time or part time? Do they tell us if these are merely entry level jobs??

Finally, this has been going on for to long. Enough said, get busy contributing to yourself because the rest of us are tired of paying your way. It never should have been paid out to anyone for more than 12 months.

Isn't it funny how by some magic, people find a job right after their unemployment compensation runs out?

The administration gave nothing more than token lip service to any extension: even they knew that with the '14 elections just around the corner this "issue" was a Loser with a capital "L". And more than about time. Owatonnabill is tired of his tax dollars going to support others' indolence.
