Parents who stopped chemotherapy for Ohio Amish girl, 11, say court wrongly appointed guardian

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A court was wrong to appoint a guardian to make medical decisions for an Amish girl whose parents stopped her chemotherapy against doctors' wishes, and the guardian should be allowed to resign, the family's attorney said in court filings this week.

This girl should be removed from her parents and placed in temporary custody that will give her access to lifesaving treatment. Being "deeply religious" is not an acceptable reason to reject modern medical treatment. Failure to take advantage of life saving treatment is tantamount to murder - and these parents should not be allowed that "choice."
