Looks like a great Gardy guy. Average in the field, below average at the plate, but great in the clubhouse.

Dougmac: catching is a key part of the pitching game. It makes absolutely no sense to sign free agent veteran pitchers if you don't have experience behind the plate. Throwing a rookie catcher put there on a daily basis is very bad idea. Once they lost out on AJ and Salty, there were fewer choices.

Anything Suzuki does offensively well in 2014 is a bonus. Suzuki was brought in specifically to call games for the pitching upgrade. Essentially 2014 is another wasted year because offensively, as the Twins line up now, will be bleek. The idea was to spend money on "better" pitching and try to keep games low scoring.

Twins pitching seems to have improved to the point that they maybe tied with the league worst ERA instead of just having it outright.

Maybe should have resigned Butera as the numbers for both Suzuki and Butera are fairly close but Butera would have come a lot cheaper.

Close? Not even. Butera has a 36 OPS+ in fewer than 550 PAs. He is 30. Suzuki, also 30, has a 86 OPS+ in nearly 3,300 PAs.

The negativity surrounding Suzuki is ridiculous. He's the best of what was left after the top 3 said no. And he's waaaaaay better than Butera. Or did you forget a full season of catching with a .170 batting average? There are very few players who have gotten that many at bats and hit that poorly. Maybe Ray Oyler for the Tigers...

Doesn't matter who the Twins sign, it's not enough for "the fans." They play fantasy baseball. With about six or eight teams. They choose from all of MLB. So they never need to draft from the middle of the pool down. They don't understand the difference between their pretend world and the real one.

Most fans on these message boards seem to understand the difference between Ryan's pretend world and the real world of MLB. When are the homers wearing rose colored glasses going to get that?
