"Following a strong [Ponder] finish in 2012"?? I would've thought that by now the MN media would be done propagandizing for Spielman's horrible decision to waste another year on Ponder. Ponder's stats for the last 4 games of 2012: 11/17 for 91 yds, 17/24 for 131 yds, 16/30 for 174 yds and 16/28 for 234 yds. In addition there were several horrible INTs dropped by opposing defenses, including that ridiculous wounded duck against GB to the middle of the field. Neither the stats nor the eye-test supports the ridiculous assertion (and the excuse for the lack of a QB competition in training camp) that "Ponder has a strong finish to 2012." It was all Peterson.

Still need to draft the future QB

I have agreed with the decision to play Ponder because he gave the Vikes to best chance to win but he has appeared to regress and the positives and covered up by his inconsistancies and inability to read defenses and pick up on second and third reads. Vikes need to do their best to trade Ponder to get something for him to avoid the cap hit. No way Ponder and Cassel should be back next year because at best they are the same and their is no clear cut backup. This team has to many other holes to fill to be paying 2 starting QB's. If Cassel plays out the season as he has the last 3 weeks he deserves to be the starter going forward. If Vikes could sign Freeman at a discount he may not be a bad backup and they could get a better look at him in camp. If Cassel would have played better against Carolina he may have continued to start. I know he got a quick hook there because Ponder has had many bad starts but the Vikes had a 1st round pick invested in Ponder and they had to make sure he was not the guy. Cassel and Freemans presence on the roster make me think the Vikes brain trust already feared Ponder was not their guy.
