Fearing a free-for-all, Vikings add security for final game at Dome

The Minnesota Vikings plan extra security for their final game at the Metrodome next weekend to avoid a repeat of the near-riot that broke out 32 years ago when the team played its final game at the old Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington.

The extra security is to protect the Wilf foundation "from physical attacks on his family" at the dome.

Certainly wouldn't want fans leaving with Seats before the Wilfs have chance to tear down the publicly built Metrodome, THAT WOULDN'T MAKE ANY SENSE.

I agree, this extra security is brought on more out of fear of the taxpayers of Minneapolis rising up with pitchforks and torches.

I think the real security is for Wilf. After what he has done and how he has treated people, he needs it.

I was at the final game at the Met. People were taking anything – including the urinals. What the heck would you do with those? I was young and stupid and I learned this key lesson: when you jump on a goal post in cold weather, it snaps off. When it falls on your stomach, it breaks your ribs. Ouch that hurt!

I was also at that game. I was also young and stupid, but managed not to get too crazy. Instead, I helped my friends father, who was a veterinarian, yes, an animal doctor, move through the late stages of the chaos and perform first aid on fools who had managed to hurt themselves. When I got home, I told my own father (RIP) about the madness. He got right in front of me and said, "Yeah, that's why I gave up on the drunks that seem to be in the DNA of the NFL." And that was thirty-two years ago. So if I were in charge of security for the last game, I would take the same approach that the Wilfs take towards money: More. Is. Never. Enough.

What a way to "Spoil a Party"! We won 2 World Series and no one "trashed" the Dome.

I was there 32 years ago as well. I was working in a concession stand. We had people try to break through the locked door and take the soda machines. I had a crew of mostly high school girls and the drunks were the ones trying to get in. I was so concerned for the girls. I was in a stand under the seats and could literally hear the stands being torn apart above me. One of the scariest moments of my concession stand career!

The best way to keep it calm would be not selling alcohol. Of course we all no not serving alcohol at an NFL is considered sacrilegious and against what most fans believe in.......... Getting drunk that is.
