Wow. Institutions are really stretching it finding ways to justify their expensive MRI machines. This study is just plain goofy.

Diogenes9 writes: This study is just plain goofy ... Not if the premise of the study turns out to be true, demonstrating that consumption of nuts has a beneficial impact on health and weight. And should it be true, the real trick for researchers is determining in what amounts nut consumption is beneficial. The problem with those tasty buggers is it's far too easy to eat too many.

I need a grant to determined if sitting on the couch commenting and eating pizza leads to weight gain and diabetes.

Diogenes9: Why is the study goofy? 2/3 of Americans are overweight or obese; weight loss is difficult to achieve, and hard to maintain. It's worth knowing whether nuts (which are low risk and not very expensive) aid weight loss. The study will either show that "nuts work to aid weight loss" or that we need to look elsewhere. freedubay: Sorry, the answer to your question is already known; sedentary behavior leads to weight gain and diabetes; avg cost of diabetes medical care is ~$12,000/patient.

Thanks Adam, there goes my grant. Do you we really need another study on weight gain? People, go into you kitchen and throwaway the chips, packaged mixes and frozen foods. I know it takes more time but cook from scratch more often. The food you see advertised on TV, they want you to eat it. Its cheap to make and has profit value. Make time to take daily walks. I know life is busy but you need to take control. There is NO magic pill other than self control.
