Methodist pastor appeals defrocking over gay wedding

PHILADELPHIA — A United Methodist pastor defrocked for officiating at his son's same-sex wedding has appealed the decision, a move that offered the latest evidence of a split in the nation's largest mainline Protestant denomination and came as yet another state legalized gay marriage.

This man knowingly and willingly went against the rules of his employer. As a leader in his organization it is his responsibility to uphold those rules. Breaking the rules and using the excuse that "I did it out of love for my son", blatantly telling his employer he knows better than they do doesn't justify his actions. If he doesn't believe the rules of his employer is just, then he needs to look for one who does. I totally understand we love our children unconditionally, but that love doesn't mean we throw all of the rules out the window and write in what we want those rules to be.
