Saint Nicholas was the Bishop of Turkey.

St. Nicholas was bishop of Myra in Lycia, part of what is now Turkey. Turkey as a unified country did not exist at the time of St. Nicholas. St. Nicholas's diocese surely did not include Constantinople (present-day Istanbul), so he did not govern the entire area that is now Turkey.

Turkey has a huge St.Nicholas celebration, where he is called Noel Baba or Father Christmas. St. Nicholas' church in Demre is a tourist attraction.
