Yes and the Sound of Music is an exact retelling of Maria Von Trapp's story. Let's face it, neither Travers nor Maria were very likable people and a "true-to-the facts" movie on either one of them would have been box-office bombs.

I loved this movie. It doesn't need to have all the details spot-on to be emotionally accurate. No one will ever know why Travers gave in to Disney after twenty years, but we do know she did. And by all reports, she forever vacillated between saying she hated the film and didn't hate it. I don't think the movie glosses over her reaction at all; you never get the idea she adored it. I would say this film is no more inaccurate than many other recent true-life stories, like the Guthrie's "Scottsboro Boys" or the films "Argo" or "Captain Phillips."
