Delays on the Northstar have been happening several times a week lately. They are significant enough that I and others are just about ready to start driving again. I can't afford to be chronically late for work. What are the fixes? They have a contract that is supposed to give priority to the passenger train. Is the fix to abide by the contract?

and how much do these rail boondoggles cost that cause this kind of promised efficiency?

The Northstar regularly doesn't run on time. What makes it "news" today?

Local highways are running on schedule. (Since they always add "light rail is running on schedule" when they do a story about traffic delays when we get a big snowfall)

Terrible article. Virtually no information at all related to the Northstar's delays and how this is acceptable. Poor "reporting," if you can call it that.

Thank fracking for this. Metro Transit and the legislature need to lay down dedicated tracks all the way to St. Cloud. This is a temporary solution at best and now the time has run out.

I ride Northstar every day. By and large, I'm on time for work every day....give or a take a few minutes. If I was worried about being 5 minutes late, I'd get on the earlier train. Not sure which scheduled train is late 'several times a week', but it certainly isn't the one I ride! :) All commuters face delays from time to time. I just face mine with a good book in hand...

It's hard to have too much sympathy for these dozens of inconvenienced riders when the fares they pay cover less than 10% of the operating costs of the choo choo. Nevertheless, as long as billions of tax dollars have been and will be wasted on this boondoggle, at least figure out how to make it get to places on time. et another Dayton blunder.

I've been riding since Day 1. Up until the past couple of months, it was super-reliable. Lately, there have been a variety of problems. A few have been unavoidable; however the issue of freight trains should NOT be an issue because Northstar is contracted to have priority over freight. BNSF dispatching appears to be the issue and needs to be fixed. pronto. Northstar's reputation for reliability has been hard-earned over the years. Don't throw it away.
