Three-and-out: Were Vikings considering drafting Dalton?

  • Article by: Chip Scoggins , Star Tribune

The Vikings are coming off their best performance of the season and have no questions about who will start at quarterback. In fact, their 48 points against Philadelphia were their highest total in the 32-year history of the Metrodome. As they prepare to play a Bengals team that has not lost at home this season, here are three things you should know about the matchup:

So, Frazier, you still think you were lucky to have drafted Ponder instead Dalton? Keep that thought with you as you wait in the unemployment line.

“Christian was our quarterback, we targeted Christian and it worked out fine,” he said. “He was our guy. We made that decision early on, and fortunately for us, we got to, I think it was 12, and he was there.”------ Man, that is a nauseating statement. It's hard to believe he is willing to say that at this point.

Delusional? Denial? “Christian was our quarterback, we targeted Christian and it worked out fine,” he said. “He was our guy. We made that decision early on, and fortunately for us, we got to, I think it was 12, and he was there.” Leslie doesn't have to trash Ponder, but to say that just makes one doubt everything that comes out of his mouth.

Frazier is too classy to badmouth his player to the media, that is all this is. If he thought Ponder was so great, he would be starting this week instead of Cassell. Say what you will, Frazier is a class act! I think he was put in a very tough spot this year as far as the QB's go. Spielman wanted Ponder since he drafted him, it was obvious Frazier was not on board with the Freeman experiment, and now he will probably be the scapegoat and get fired.

Remember what Mike Mayock said on the NFL Network when Spielman drafted Ponder? He was not impressed, and said that now Spielmans name will be permanently attached to Ponder, as Ponder was certainly not the best player on the board, and was a reach at QB.

Every time Frazier opens his mouth, he gets further disconnected from reality. Ponder was a reach at 12, everyone in the country felt that way at the time. In no way were they lucky to find him still on the board. Most of the experts ranked Dalton ahead of Ponder too.

"Ponder worked out fine". NO WAY. All involved should be fired and Ponder should be cut immediately.Ponder is the worst first round pick the vikings have ever made, because so much time has been wasted letting him try.The sooner Ponder is gone the sooner we will be moving in the right direction.

Serious college football and NFL followers could see beforehand Ponder was a second-third round QB before the draft. Who was responsible for the decision to draft Ponder? Everyone could see he did not have the goods to start so soon as a rookie NFL QB but we needed someone besides over-the-hill McNabb. Who was responsible for signing McNabb after the NFL strike? Everyone could see that in his second and third seasons Ponder did not possess the skills necessary to lead his team as a starting NFL QB. Everyone could see Cassel was far superior as this year's starting QB. Whose decision was it to continue to start Ponder and who decided to bring in Freeman? Now here we are and we possibly could have won the NFC North this season w/Cassel, a better talented QB and leader, as the starter all season instead of Ponder. Mums grave is a better OC w/Cassel at QB. Leslie seems like a great leader of men but someone really mishandled this situation and it will go down as a colossal waste of a season with a talented team, in the prime of Adrian's carrier, in a weak division.

I was a Frazier fan until reading this. How was a constantly hurt, inconsistent, mediocre QB 'their guy' when Dalton was 22-1 in his last two years, ran a West Coast Offense super efficiently and was tough as nails and never hurt? Frazier and Spielman need to go for that decision alone.

If The Big Bad Wilf wants to build a championship contending team the first thing he'll do is fire Spielman The Dolphin Destroyer.
