They acquired 23-year-old lefthander Sean Gilmartin, a 2011 first-rounder.

Apparently Doumit was making too much money. As a .247 hitter he was one of the top for average if you remember. Terry has yet to impress me with any of his signings and trades. We need a big bopper to turn around the offense. I get tired of these wimpy hitters and hitting coaches.

Perfect fit. Troubles last year pitching and shoulder problems to boot. But at least he's left handed.

They have switched from pitching to position players this week? Didn't they just trade a position player (Doumit) for a pitcher?

Typical Terry Ryan/Twins salary dump. Remember J.J. Hardy?

Doumit is no JJ Hardy and Gilmartin is no Jim Hoey. The 2 moves are not comparable. The Twins acquired middle-of-the-rotation upside (that is, Gilmartin's ceiling is higher than that of Pelfrey or Correia) for 1 year of Ryan Doumit. What's wrong with that??

Opens up a slot for the signing of another 1B/DH switch hitting player named Kendry Morales...

Good. How often do I remember hearing Bremer talk about how great he is and having an catcher that could outfield... I would buy season tickets if the Twins traded Bremer actually.

Looks like another Scott Diamond to me. Not sure if a 90mph fastball will cut it for this lefty. Mark Buehrle could do it with some success but those guys are few and far between.

Maybe this will open up a roster spot for Chris Herrmann, who is a much cheaper option. I appreciate Doumit's service to the Twins but his most amazing achievement is the ability to grow great amounts of facial hair overnight.

Any player with Doumit's average and OB percentage qualifies as a backup at best.
