REVIEW: Part 2 of “The Hobbit” is packed with spectacle, yet never slouches on storytelling.

I loved these books as a kid and I can't wait to see this latest movie installment.

I didn't hate The Hobbit, Part 1 although I would like to see a version that cut out the hour+ of fan service and stuck to the story. It was handled well but was excessive and only there because of unbridled commerce. The new one sounds great!

The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings trilogy are classics. No movie can beat the books.

No movie can beat the books. Sure, but Jackson has come darn close. Amazingly close.

I'm a huge Tolkien fan, and I loved the LotR films (if not *quite* as much as the books themselves -- those will always be better than the films). My feelings on the first Hobbit movie were pretty "meh". I liked this one (The Desolation of Smaug) a lot more. It's still not "great" IMHO, but I would say it's at least "good".

I am very excited for this film. As far as the first movie being a disappointment, I don't agree. I found the story telling and pace quite agreeable. As the first installment of basically an eighteen hour miniseries, I found it rich and compelling.

The Hobbit (part 2) was terrible! About 50% of it was made up not from the book!! Two elves (and a love story) were just thrown in as was a great deal of violence for violence for violence sake. The story does not need melee every few minutes. And that part about "gold plating" a dragon? You have to be kidding! READ the BOOK!!!
