I wouldn't call Cassel treasure unless you're David Kahn. Cassel is a below average starting QB the fact that you think he is a savior shows how bad the QB position is with the Vikings.

The fact that the veteran Cassel is our starter on Sunday tells you how bad the Christian Ponder experiment has failed the last three years. That responsibility for that extended failure is on Frazier and Spielman. Ponder's erratic play and proven lack of durability has been tolerated too long.

Cassel doesn't get sacked as much as Ponder because he's getting the ball to his receivers before the play/route is lost, something Ponder struggles with fairly consistently. The Vikings need to keep him around if only as a quality backup. Yeah I said quality. bet he gives the Eagles a run for their money and breaks that "no more than 21 points" stat. Vikings 31-Eagles 28.

The way Frazier has treated Cassel it would be awful if somehow he saves Frazier's job.

Does Frazier now believe that Cassel and not Ponder gives the Vikings the best chance to win??? Where's Freeman??? This team is such a joke...

bigbrad - It's safe to say that Freeman is vastly overrated. If he cannot beat out a decent backup (Cassel) and a scrub (Ponder) he has no business being on the field. It's not like the guy (Freeman) has to memorize/run Peyton Manning's play book. Musgrave's is about as in depth as a dinner menu at your local greasy spoon.

I am sure Craig is giddy beyond description that Frazier didn't turn back to Ponder. Look, it wasn't Ponder's fault that he was picked 12. It wasn't Ponder's fault when the defense was and still is playing so poorly...see RGIII. You all want to throw out the baby with the bath water. Okay, draft another Qb. Is there any guarantee? Bridgewater? Carr? Any other name? I am not saying Ponder is the answer, but he certaily is not the sole issue, but everyone, including this paper's sports writers are so anxious to hang this kid from the yard-arm, and now it appears you have gotten your wish, but be careful what you wish for. This goes beyond numbers. What happens if the next guy that comes in begins to fail in his 2nd full year of starting? Will he be held out for a lynching as well? This is so pathetic. Look at where defenses rank, look at their Qb play and tell me how much different Ponder is right now compared to RGIIIs, Eli's, play. Conversely, look at top defenses with struggling QB play: Houston, Browns, Raiders, Bills, and Jets. You all wouldn't be saying jack if we had the Browns defense and Ponder was hovering around 80- QBR and an 8-5 or 7-6 record. Again, utterly pathetic. A Vikings fan since 1969, and never have I been more disgusted at a group of writers collectively wishing for someone's failure. Amazing!

Wow, apparently there are still Ponder Protector's out there like VirginiaVike. This is a different NFL than the one you grew up with. It's a necessity to have a franchise QB to be a Super Bowl contender. Ponder has shown time and time again that he is not a franchise caliber QB. With a new drafted QB, is there any guarantee he will be good? No. But continuing down this path with Ponder is more insane than trying something new.
