Let's be honest. Putin knows that he has Obama on the end of string like a puppet. Obama and Biden will fly somewhere and deliver some speeches and that will be the end of it.

"But Europe’s malaise is still preferable to closer ties to Russia for millions of Ukrainians, including thousands encamped in Kiev in a protest that has become just the latest global flashpoint testing the Obama administration." .............. Precisely to whom is this a "flashpoint"? Ukraine doesn't even register on owatonnabill's radar, let alone seeing it as another excuse for America's and this administration's fumble-fingered attempts at "diplomacy" merely to dig yet another international hole for us. Maybe if we import more vodka and borscht we can help improve their economy but anything beyond that? Nyet.

Do the editorial writers know for a fact that the EU wants to bring Ukraine into the fold? I support the country's right to self-determination, but I have a feeling that the EU is ambivalent about closer ties with a new member that is rather impoverished. Moreover, Europe can't really risk angering Russia either. There is the small matter of energy dependency.

Kiev is 4864 miles from Washington DC. Its 530 miles from Moscow. At some point Ukraine will make a decision to join or not to join the EU. That decision will have an unmeasurably small impact on the United States. It will have a small impact on the EU. It will have a moderate impact on Russia. Why exactly is this any of our business?
