This is a nice signing for the Twins. Hughes will be a solid #3 pitcher. Hopefully, Nolasco will be a #2. This will be a nice bridge until Gibson/Meyer/Stewart are ready

The best news in all of this might be the last sentence: Hendriks was DFA'd.

If Hughes was, or has the potential to be a good pitcher, there is no way the Yankee's would have let him get away.

I think the Twins pitching will be greatly improved in 2014!

If Gardenhire let Fricso Pitch to his talent rather than force him into a pitch to contact guy, just maybe we would have a Left Handed ace who can win in any Park. Adding Hughes may be a improvement over some of our staff, but he is no Ace. Sorry, still bitter about all those Twins They let go who played in the all star games in someone elses uniforms..

Hughes and Nolasco are better than what the Twins had last year, in almost every case. Now I'd like to see Ryan keep looking, and make another major signing during the meetings. These two guys provide hope for a better season going into Spring Training, at any rate, but there is more to do.

For sure another pitcher will need to be if we want a winning record in 2014. Also, we need a hitter or two. Cruz or Beltran mcould DH , and would be a bridge to future.

"Twins pitching coach Rick Anderson has had success with helping pitchers with mechanics" -- Seriously, I'd like to see some reporting done on Twins pitchers sidelined with major arm injuries compared to other teams. I'm thinking Scott Baker, Francisco Liriano, Joe Nathan, Carl Pavano, Kevin Slowey, and how many others?

I agree that these guys are number 3 pitchers on any contending team, but for once this is a step in the right direction. In fact, and I know I'm dreaming here, but maybe this will be the impetus to allow a top pitcher to consider a Twins deal. Our young guys in the minors are not ready and may never be the ace pitcher we all hope they will develop into. Time will tell, but in the meantime, this is a right move.
