It was Richard Pitino’s first big date with Williams Arena, and once he was in the right mood, he began taking off his clothes.

It's amazing watching a well coached team. Who knows what the Big Ten season will bring but I'm already sold on Pitino. In a short time he's already shown he knows how to coach and has gotten far more out of his players than Tubby ever did.

tcstunner, you have that right. I think that Tubby was mailing it in the last year or two, while waiting for retirement. Great fun watching Pitino Jr. teach a good team how to out-hustle and beat a better team (on paper). Who knows how well they will do in the Big 10, but I predict the next few years will be fun to watch. Go Richard P.

Fun game to watch and solid win, but let's not go overboard. FSU is projected to miss the big dance just like our Gophers. It was great to see them beat a team with similar talent at home. On a negative note there were 52 fouls called in the game, or more than 1 foul per minute. I guess the refs had a good time.

Great article...if it wasnt for working nightshift, i would be at these games! I sure hope we get to have this coach around for a long time, and he builds a great program here. I just think its time we have that kind of luck around here...same for the football program.

Ok, having said that, this is the best coached team on offense we've had since Musselman...Clem's team's threw up a lot of prayers at the end of shot clocks, Bobby Jackson was the difference maker there though Clem's teams were fun to watch on D....if the Barn gets rocking again like it did in the 90's this could be the best ticket in town again...Pitino should be able to recruit to this system, he can already point to hanging with Syracuse (#4 in the country) and beating FSU and Richmond on the road as reasons for recruits to pay attention...and if he can recruit to his system and get 4 shooters on the floor with mobile big men, yeah, this is looking good....next step is to get the S jacobsen's and john thomas's and so on, guys who get you 10-15 points a night on athleticism.....geez the refs's got out of hand, 65 free throws or something like that.

Love the part about Coach P will scream about not playing defense or rebounding but lets the team play on offense, with instructions to NOT EVEN LOOK AT THE BENCH on offense. Offense has to be played free and wide open which Coach P apparently lets them do.

Was at the game last night. Obviously very good coaching by young Richard. Other than the team, and their hard play, the crowd was large and loud. Student section was almost full and haven't seen that for a non-conference game. The students, of course, were also very into it. Fun!!

Fun game to watch, but for Hightower and company trying to make themselves the focus. Too many fouls that should not have been called. There were two egregious errors that hit Joey and Eliot when they were playing standstill defense close to the basket. The Big Ten needs to discipline these poor Refs, either get them to shape up or hit the door.

One good thing about the refs, Hightower is retiring at the end of December. We will not have to put up with his whistle happy officiating in the Big 10. Great game Gophers. Very tough, hard nosed, scrappy win! I hope Maverick has a new tooth by now:-) Great job coach, the future is bright!
