Editor: Guardian has published 1 percent of material received from NSA leaker Edward Snowden

LONDON — The editor of the Guardian said Tuesday his newspaper has published just 1 percent of the material it received from former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden, and denied the paper had placed lives or national security at risk.

In a democracy, the government has a duty to be transparent while individuals have a right of privacy. Leaks of NSA information reveal the US government is violating the privacy rights of individuals. If government officials want to avoid embarrassment, they should avoid actions that may embarrass them if revealed. When governments fail to be transparent, individuals benefit when whistleblowers and journalists reveal government actions.

The CIA/NSA have operated like criminal organizations with zero oversight for 50 years. Al-Qaeda is their answer to every illegal action. Terrorism has been overblown and has cost waaay to much money.
