GAINESVILLE, Fla. — On one of the busiest flying days of the year, Delta Air Lines canceled an Atlanta-bound commercial flight from Gainesville Regional Airport so it could use the plane to accommodate the University of Florida men's basketball team.

The article would have been better asking the people how they felt being bumped off their flight? Did they volunteer or had not choice?

I can understand why they did it. But it does beg the question, who is the hammer head that didn't plan this out so Delta didn't need to bump passengers? Seems like very very poor planning.

So much for being an "Elite" Delta traveler.

Nice move Delta!! Not surprising at all. Hopefully all of those people that got those semi-worthless "vouchers" didn't have any other major issues like getting to work, etc on Monday, doctors appointments, to be concerned with. Getting the basketball team from point-a to point-b should always take priority. Maybe do a pre-flight video with Richard Anderson explaining how the Delta Priority system works......

Southwest did that to a flight I was on. We had a short lay-over in Milwaukee, weren't even supposed to get off the plane. They bumped us, and those who were catching the plane in Milwaukee, for a flight to Phoenix. Why? Because the plane to Phoenix had mechanical issues. We ended up spending an extra three hours at the Milwaukee airport.

I have been bumped before, and they certainly give you a nice $ voucher for another time. It seems as though the U of Fl team had to get to there, too. And I understand the dilemma on all sides. I think they did fine.

Once I was on a flight and it was delayed. And once my bags were the last ones to be loaded on the carousel. And another time, the flight attendant was mean to me. All this while I spend upwards of $200 for my tickets. At that kind of price, I should be treated much better than that. The airlines are out to make money -- they don't care about my feelings.

This makes no sense from a customer-service standpoint. When the article says that the commercial flight was cancelled so the plane could be used by the basketball team, I interpret that to mean the ticketed passengers did not get to choose or volunteer. I would have expected Delta to get another plane to Gainsville for the team, as they probably had a few sitting on the ground in Atlanta, only 300 miles away, except this is Delta these days.

35 people affiliated with the team? Last I checked there are only 5 players on the court at a time. Next time UF plans on inconviencing others, they should maybe just bring essential personnel.

I do everything in my power to not fly Delta.
