"Cassel has the highest passer rating (84.6) of the three Vikings quarterbacks", makes perfect sense why Ponder is starting...

mvidmar - while you don't want to blow a high draft pick, you at least want to be competitive. At the same time, you don't want to royally stink up the joint to scare away solid free agent. Notice how Cleveland, Oakland, and Jacksonville have been drafting in the top 10 for the better part of a decade?

Frazier is just a lost cause.

So Cassel - " really trusts Greg to be where he’s supposed to be". Maybe Ponder has no clue as to where Jennings is supposed to be. I think most posters here agree that Cassel gives the Vikings the best chance to win (now). But he is not the long term answer. S we need losers right now to get higher picks!

I agree, I hope for a loss every week. Pretty clear cassel would make a good 1-2 year fit to mentor a young QB.

I can remember at least 3 times where Jennings was WIDE open (no one within 8 yards of him) when Ponder tucked the ball and ran. Ponder doesn't know his progressions. And if he did he doesn't have the arm to get the ball to a receiver anyway. Frazier says if a QB gets hit "if he's not careful" he'll get happy feet and not go through his progressions. Yep, coach, we have ONE of those. But he gives us the best chance to win.

Is there a reason why the Vikings reporters don't challenge Frazier about WHY Ponder is "of course under consideration to be the starter next week"? Maybe they could use some of the Cassel vs. Ponder statistics cited in the article to ask Leslie to EXPLAIN why "Ponder gives us the best chance to win"? Maybe try a follow-up question when Leslie throws out a meaningless cliche about Ponder "doing some good things for us." Reporters on the East Coast wouldn't swallow Frazier's nonsense and incompetent pronouncements so easily.

If, with the naked eye Frazier can't see that Cassell gives us the best quarterback play and the best chance to win he shouldn't be coaching football at any level much less in the NFL. Ponder cannot pull the trigger. He plays scared. If Frazier is making these kinds of decisions on his own then he needs to be fired. Any fool can see that Cassell is currently a superior QB.

I noticed the Cassell factor long before this report came out about he being the only quarterback on the Vikings that produces a WIN. How can I say this with only THREE wins? Easy: He is the only quarterback we have that shows POISE at the position. Easy to see. So why didn't Frasier? This love affair with a well-liked and nice guy has got to end, but not now. Go for the DRAFT. Don't be stupid again, Frasier, and start winning TOO LATE!
