tough issue. On one hand, I highly admire this guy for doing this, and I am glad they offered him his job back. That said, I do believe in the free market. This franchise owner can require that the story be open on Thanksgiving if he wants. I think its jerky to do so, but it his right to be a jeri, and if employees dont like it they can quit.

This is as insane as these states that want to ban stores from being open on Thanksgiving. I sure as hell wouldn't work it, but that's my choice and shouldn't be mandated by big government. If you work someplace that wants to be open and you don't want to work, then quit. There WILL be someone who wants that job enough to take your place.

The manager just wanted to test market his new Turkey pizza! As for me, I will shop online and let the UPS guys deliver it to my home.

If the franchisee wanted the restaurant open, (s)he should have managed it him/herself. Lead by example. Don't ask an employee to do something that you wouldn't do yourself.

I guess management doesn't care about employee's working a holiday. Don't think I'll support that mode of thinking. No more Pizza Hut pizza's for me.

Sometimes standing on your own two feet pays off.

The free market worked perfectly in this case so it isn't insane at all. Employee took a stand, franchise owner took a stand and corporate overruled franchise owner. It was between the three parties with the consumer opinion standing over all of them.

Sounds like the manager had faithfully done his job based on the terms he was hired for 10 yrs. If the owner decides to change the rules and take away the holiday from the employees it shouldn't be grounds for them to lose their job. The owner should have figured out how to staff it for the holiday without firing them or taking away their benefits. The free market came back to bite this owner in the butt....
