Rand: Vikings' Freeman experiment is puzzling

  • Article

His flaws aside, Christian Ponder played well enough in Sunday’s tie, particularly in the eyes of Leslie Frazier, to earn another start in the Vikings’ next game at home against Chicago. That will be their 12th game of the season. With just four more to go after that, it’s safe to assume the noble Josh Freeman Experiment, whatever it once was, has taken on a much different course.

It seems like since Souhan's column on Frasier being a nice/classy guy that no one is talking about Frasier being on the hot-seat. How stereotypically Minnesotan to say, "aw shucks" and "nice guy" and "pretty good". We need to grow a set and demand more.

I also saw Rand's video about drafting Johnny Football. He's the only one who might survive playing at The Bank for the next 3 years. Yes, 3 years...you heard it here first.

This is huge red flag for Zygi concerning Rick Spielman. Your General Manager has to be able to choose a quarterback and with Ponder and now Freeman, it's obvious Spielman can't do that.

Just draft Johnny Football and get rid of Ponder and Freeman. If you need a 3rd QB pick have a wild cat guy. A 3rd stringer for the most part have proven they never win games anyway.

vegan: I'm pretty sure that no one is talking about Frazier being on the hot seat because it's a foregone conclusion that Leslie will be a coordinator somewhere next season.

Maybe Jack Delrio will be available to them come February. He didn't do that bad at Jacksonville with limited quality players. He was a good player when we had him and he's a seasoned guy, and young enough that he could be here for at least 10 years.

Possibly Freeman was brought in to motivate Ponder and more likely is they discovered too late why Tampa got rid of him. Ponder could be a head case, cannot put a whole game together. Ponders biggest downside is he has no arm cannot throw deep. No wonder defenses use 8 man fronts and stop Peterson. Sad but true......

Johnny Manziel is NOT the answer either. He is an exciting QB to watch but "making plays with his legs" is a bad formula for long-term success in the NFL...witness RG III last night (MNF) and Michael Vick as two prime examples. Fast NFL defenses eventually catch up to that approach. Both RG III and Vick have suffered serious leg injuries underlining the danger of that approach as well. The Vikings need a poised pocket QB with a strong, quick arm and the ability to see the field and instantly find his receivers. It's a "tall order" but critical to putting the Vikings back on the winning track.

What a mess the Vikings are. The owners are crooks, the coaching staff a joke, and the players for the most part would be second and third stringers on other teams. Lets build them an expensive stadium!

If you drink the koolaid - Leslie is saying the right things about Freeman - Freeman is showing up at meetings, behaving himself and playing nice with others - plus getting paid from two teams. If Ponder isn't the QB of the future - why run freeman out there now - so other teams can get more film on him, maybe decide they want him, etc... keep him under wraps.
