Transit is GOOD for both employers and employees. But the objection to light-rail is the cost per trip. Ask the government transportation experts. If you want to move X people, light-rail is most, bus is least expensive.

Since moving the most people per billion spent is evidently NOT the goal (or we'd invest in bus) just what IS the goal of light-rail??

anywhoNov. 24, 13 5:47 PM

oh, so light rail is just another welfare program? And if so, aren't buses a much cheaper option? More proof that light rail and god forbid cable cars are a waste of money with no benefit.

According to the article it's to create low wage jobs.

Look folks, I would much rather spend a couple of extra tax dollars on transit then have Walmart pay their employees more and end up raising their store prices! Light rail will keep prices down and save us all money. This is probly the only example that I can think of that by spending tax money u can also save a business some money...which ends up saving me money when I shop there! Right?

So, tax payers are supposed to pay to get people to their low paying jobs and businesses are not expected to pay taxes since they are the job creators? Not only do taxpayers have to feed, house and pay for medical care for these people, we have to transport them as well?

Criminals seem to appreciate light rail----------------------------------------Burglary spree hits underground parking garages along Minneapolis light-rail line Article by: BILL MCAULIFFE , Star Tribune Updated: November 22, 2013 - 11:48 PM At least 136 vehicles have been broken into while they were parked in underground garages near the light rail in Minneapolis.

Natural gas busses. Light rail and streetcars are a waste of money. Let your legislators know you want your money spent wisely. We do not have the population to support light rail, and never will.

elmore1Nov. 24, 13 9:21 PM

Given tight funding available this is still very expensive with questionable benefits. I like the idea of more rail in the long term but it is coming at a time where the majority party has been on an uncontrolled spending spree and Dayton's stadium fiasco continues to be an example of govt fiscal mis-management on a large scale. They need to get more buy-in and build a stronger case and in the meantime add some more buses.

Yeah, yeah, I know. You're afraid that your tax dollars are going to benefit people you don't approve of. But if it's something that you THINK would benefit YOU (e.g. more freeway lanes), then that becomes "vital."
