The Move to have Koivou Captain has already PROVEN to be a mistake, its unheard of for gm/coaches to get it wrong when selecting a captain, these guys got it wrong. It is foolish to look at the games he played in Finland on that cute road trip where they started out the regular season a couple years back OR his most recent play.......... Why would Fletch/Leo ever put the fans in a position to endure a bad move like this for 5 years now........ Fans sometimes have amnesia, they look only at a few games where he is trying to be captain of Finland so he is playing like he did when the team started out the season there

I guess he was never a leader before by that headline. Seemingly everywhere but the Twin Cities others think he is a leader. You know, Captain of the Finnish team that won the gold medal in the '11 World Championship, plus other international medals. I agree Sono, in a completely expected move, Russo playing-up to the locals with that headline. Since I have experienced life elsewhere, i.e. not a local, I will fuel the fire by asking, "Russo, when are you going to have the article stating, Parise establishes himself as a Wild leader with recent play." Or because he hustles, and is from here, it is a given that he is a leader. Wow, I bet both Ballard and Prosser wish they were faster under that thesis, then the could be considered leaders because they are from here.

mga: Was Parise the captain in Jersey because he was a local product? Or perhaps, because he was one of the hardest working, most dedicated professionals on their roster? Your fixation on all things Parise is a bit odd.

God, I love THIS team. Thank you MN Wild for giving me something fun to watch and root for. I'm just thankful man...how great is it to turn on the game and EXPECT them to win, if not be competitive. Keep it up boys, and ignore the beaten down Minnesotans...they're just letting off some steam because they EXPECT to lose...and how can you blame them? This town (Lynx aside) hasn't seen a winner since '91 (and honestly, I don't care for watching Baseball). I want a winner, and the Wild give us our best shot. Again, mad props to the ladies of the local WNBA team. Go Wild!

Hey headstle, you are awesome. Thanks for a great post. Just root for our team and love them no matter if they win or lose. You must have know what it was like to lose an NHL team in Minnesota and know where your priorities are. and just an FYI to folks out there who is bashing Yeo. He was at the Burnsville rink yesterday supporting his JV son. Had a chance to talk to that guy for about 10 minutes between games. He knows his "stuff" and he also doesn't back down from letting "just a guy like me" how he feels about his team. Just an all around great guy who not only loves to support his son's team, but supports his Hometown team too.

I didn't know a 10 game hot streak can establish someone as a leader so quickly. What about when Koivu valiently led us into the playoffs last year with 4 points in the final month of the season? Or what about when he disappeared with injuries down the stretch the previous two seasons as well? Surly those grievances can be forgotten if you simply look at the captain's track of success in the playoffs right? What's that you say? Koiv has one playoff win in one playoff series over the past five years and three head coaches? Yeah, some "leader" we have.

bolson22Nov. 22, 13 9:12 AM

Are you guys privy to what is said in the locker room between the players and the coaches? Koivu was named captain before Yeo even came here. The players have a lot to say who will be the captain. Mikko has the respect of all the players on this team. Just because he isn't the leading scorer doesn't mean he can't be a good captain. Steve Yzermin and Nik Lidstrom were great captains but were not the leading scorers for there team.

ToddWNov. 22, 13 9:25 AM

@cntrygntlmn - Exactly! I am a fan of Koivu, but a leader does not disappear when his team needs him most. I like how he has responded after being removed from the top line, but I will remain a skeptic because he was a no show at seasons end and in the playoffs last year. Which is why I was grumbling after his slow start this year. GO WILD!

By the way, out of the 30 teams, only 9 captains lead there team in points. Koivu is one of the 9.
