Scientists say wet weather boosts Great Lakes water levels, but long-term slump hasn't ended

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — Abundant rain and snowfall have given the Great Lakes a boost this year, but it's too early to declare an end to slumping water levels that have plagued the inland seas since the late 1990s and made life miserable for cargo shippers and marina operators, federal scientists said Wednesday.
