Rachel Banham, as usual, led the Gophers in points, but freshman Amanda Zahui B. had a double-double against Charlotte.

Nice rout. The starting five (Zahui B., Riche, Noga, Banham, Mullaney) have a chance to get the Gophers a top three finish in the B1G this year given the losses the other schools have had to graduation. The short bench will be a problem, though. The interior size (and scoring ability) drop-off is substantial after Zahui B. and Riche and this team will get pushed around mightily if those two get into foul trouble. I'm always (usually unjustifiably) optimistic about this team, but I don't see any single preseason game that they shouldn't have a great chance of winning (Creighton, Chatanooga, UCLA, Kansas, and Auburn stand out potentially difficult but very winnable). Go Gophers!

That was a good win but the 49ers showed up our biggest weakness; our lack of depth in the front court. Once our bigs got in foul trouble, there was nothing to stop the Charlotte guards from penetrating all the way to the hoop. A more athletic team would have shreded us apart last night. Coach B is going to have her hands full managing her front court rotation to keep the post players fresh and out of foul trouble.

Give Borton another extension Kathryn Brown before someone "steals" her away! Rah!

Nice opening win. I hope this year is a significant improvement over the last several when it comes to conference play.

Five recruits and only one front court player! After Riche graduates this year we will still be paper thin in the middle next year. I'm betting Coach B is regreting deciding that Savannah Trapp (6' 9") wasn't a good fit for the U...
