Craig: Vikings teammates Rudolph, Carlson have unique bond

Rivals.com chose Cincinnati Elder’s Kyle Rudolph as the No. 1 high school tight end in the country in 2007. Michigan, Tennessee and the home-state Buckeyes were in the mix to sign the lanky 6-6, 220-pounder. But Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis had the recruiting tool that trumped all others.

We have heard over the last two years that the Vikings have had a goal to mimic the Patriots to some extent on offense by having a great two tight end duo in John Carlson and Kyle Rudolph. The Patriots had that going with Ron Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez until we all found out Hernandez was a psychopath. I have to wonder just how possible it would be to get that whole thing together next year. It would be a reason to keep Ponder. We don't have a Tom Brady so Ponder would be the the quarterback to try and make that happen with. I would also have to believe that we would be grooming a rookie quarterback (holding a clipboard on the sidelines) while this was happening.

"So Kyle, did you enjoy your visit to Notre Dame"? "Yeah it was great... I got to go to the movies with John Carlson and his girlfriend... It wasn't awkward at all" John Carlson sounds like the worst host in the history of college football.

It was good to finally get some production out of Carlson.
