Justice Dept. reaches agreement to allow merger of US Airways and American Airlines

DALLAS — American Airlines and US Airways reached a deal with the government that lets the two form the world's biggest airline and opens up more room at key U.S. airports for low-cost carriers.

No matter how the PR geniuses weave the words, less competition with fewer players in the marketplace is never good for the consumer.

Don't forget that the folks in Congress and government have a vested interest in keeping Reagan semi-competitive since it is so close to Capitol Hill and numerous federal agencies. A lot of your tax dollars (and mine) go to pay for these folks to fly in and out of Reagan, versus having to use Dulles or (heaven forbid) BWI.
