Anyone who knows the Twins Organization, knew that when Justim Mourneau was cut loose, the trail was blazed for Joe to go to First Base. What does this now equate to? a $23 million dollar First Baseman, with more games, at bats, maybe 600? and of course many more times with Dick Bremer scraming: " and a srtrongly hit single to left field". Great move Twins Management.

It was a no brainer. He certainly is not the first catcher to move to the infield after 10 years of getting pounded behind the plate. I just do not understand the criticism. Woody37, what would you do, resign Morneau and keep Mauer catching so you have a 23 million dollar player missing more games with injury? How many extra base hits did Morneau get for the Pirates the last 6 weeks of the season and in the playoffs? the answer is none, it is time to move on and this was definately the correct baseball move.

I don't have a problem with him changing positions, but I think he should be moving to third base where the teams has the least amount of talent. Why have a guy with a lot of skill at 1st base? What a waste.

Spike1, you beat me to it. I was going to comment last night that the Mauer move should be to third. The Twins should be able to get Morneau back for a reasonable price, and Mauer's athleticism will make it a quick learn for him at third, making the Twins infield the envy of three-fourths of MLB teams. Then go out and pay what's necessary to get a couple of proven starters to blend with the live arms of some of the youngsters in the system, and bingo, forget the three-year nightmare.

This move was no secret. Mauer's average will remain high, but his production will only improve if the guys in front of him can get on base, otherwise I'm not expecting a 25 HR 100 RBI out of this guy just because he moved to 1B.

I think the reason he did not move to third base is because the Twins are hoping that by the middle of next year, Miquel Sano will take over third base for a long time.

Glad to see I am not the only person who sees the need for a thirdbaseman! Why the Twins brainiacs cannot see it is truly unexplainable! The one meaningless homerun every 10 games is getting pretty old!

Yeah. Anyone can play third. Just stick any player over there. He'll do fine.
