Anderson: Deer season opens to success

NEAR COOK, MINN. – Where my brother, nephew, son and I hunt deer, white-tail numbers are low enough to keep our expectations in check, yet high enough to give us hope. I was thinking about this Saturday morning when the snowy woods near here revealed themselves in the early morning light, the limbs of jack pine and fir, spruce and poplar draped in white, and drooping.

Long intestinal digestive tract not designed for pushing through decaying animal flesh efficiently, short stubby teeth, bottom jaw that chews side to side (not up and down), no fangs, no claws, zero instinct for biting into a live animal and consuming it raw down to the bone; real carnivores do not develop high cholesterol, blocked arteries, heart disease and cancers; you're a fake carnivore; having to *cook* your meat (and then only select parts of the animal at that).. You don't fool me Mr. Anderson. I'll tell you what: put a two-year-old child into a playpen, and put in there with him two things: a bunny rabbit, and an apple; and if he eats the bunny and plays with the apple?.. let me know.. thanks..

It's not a good season in central Mn.DNR let people take too many deer for too many years and then top that with bad winters.

It sure is beautiful up here with all the new snow!! Good luck to your group.

"Deer season opens to success" Not for the deer... What a barbaric sport.

To those who hate hunting. Don't hunt.

It's only a sport if the deer can shoot back.

*sigh* Deer don't have horns. Some have antlers but none have horns. There is a difference.

With a healthy wolf population, the deer are in balance with their environment. And there are still plenty of them to hunt, despite the hard winters of late, as evidenced by this article.
