Reusse: Gophers' Dixon opted for heart surgery to keep playing volleyball

  • Article by: PATRICK REUSSE , Star Tribune

The demands on a Division I volleyball player might be greater than for any college athlete. The regular season for the 2013 Gophers calls from 33 matches from the end of August to the end of November, followed by what has become annual participation in the NCAA’s 64-team tournament.

Nice story, Patrick. Tori is a tremendous talent and a great person. Wish her the best of luck the rest of the year and her future. And, we'll miss seeing Dave at the Gopher matches!!

Don't think I have ever said this before: "well done, Patrick"! (Sure glad Souhan didn't write this story)

There are very few "isolated seats" at gopher VB games. Over 5,000 attended two weeks ago.

Mr. Reusse, nice article, especially when it is a positive outcome. I would like to comment on the reference to Ronni Beatty Kollasch. She is an athletic trainer, not trainer. Here is information that may be useful for in the future. Let me know if any questions. The Associated Press will include a specific definition of the athletic training profession in its Stylebook – the definitive resource and gold standard for media when it comes to proper punctuation and general grammatical style and reference. It has been approved by the AP Stylebook editors and will read as follows: athletic trainers Health care professionals who are licensed or otherwise regulated to work with athletes and physically active people to prevent, diagnose and treat injuries and other emergency, acute and chronic medical conditions including cardiac abnormalities and heat stroke. Specify where necessary to distinguish from personal trainers, who focus primarily on fitness.
