Play calls on fourth-quarter drive causes scrutiny

The Vikings’ decision to pass after getting the ball back with the lead late was a head-scratcher to some defensive players.

"Do not shoot the messenger"? I watched both Frazier's and Ponder's press conferences. No reporter asked Ponder about his lack of pocket awareness on the fumble, just about the play call. An NFL QB should be able to exhibit pocket presence and get rid of the ball quickly in his own endzone. No one asked about his repeatedly missing wide-open receivers. When Leslie said there was no reason he saw that Ponder wouldn't be the starter next week, not one reporter challenged him! The media on the east coast puts these journalists to shame

Totally agree with simmys11. Definitely not asking the tough questions. The MST should add another fan input to go with the polls. It should be titled, The Fans Questions, and the MST should use those questions for the coaches press conference on Mondays.

It feels like late December with this football team. We look forward to the season for months, including the draft, the early summer and finally training camp, which was a screwed up circus by the way. Then, five games in, the Vikings are 1-4 and their season is over. I felt cheated, we felt cheated. Now, I don't even care and I suspect a lot of us don't. Go away Vikings, and come back whe you have new coaching, scouting and management.

Asking the defense not to give up a 90 yard drive to lose the game isn't too much to ask no matter how much time is left. I hope whatever defenders are complaining are identified so other teams can take note when they are looking for a job this off season.

Very disappointed in Ponders's attemped hail-mary. I had cowboys D in fantasy this week - couldn't even throw it far enough to get picked off? I could have used those points.

If Ponder makes the throw, you'd all be talking about the win. It appears the combination of a HOF running back with below average personnel, and a below average QB, makes winning tough. For any group of coaches.

With 8 games in the books and 8 games to go, it's time to start the chant "WAIT TIL NEXT YEAR"!!! Just 10 months til the next season begins... The vikes will really look good then...

Actually, it was nice to see some aggressive play calling for a change. The defensive players need to shut their yaps and make a stop. That said, the entire coaching staff and Spielman need to go.

Why would anyone believe this O line could block well enough against a defense that was playing the run? It's not like Adrian has had a lot of room to run every week. I actually disliked the 2nd down play call more. A straight hand-off up the gut against an eight man front? If they didn't think it would work on 1st down, why would it work on 2nd. THAT was a terrible call!

It was a solid throw. The replay shows that Jennings was held after the ball was in the air. No way to know if it would have been a completion, but how do the refs miss a handful of jersey with Jennings running away from the defensive back.
