According to studies at Purdue University, up to 50% of football players experience no symptoms of head injury, but show significant declines in cognitive testing after practices or games. Add to this that there is as yet no true understanding of the cellular or biochemical processes that lead to brain injury; or what triggers irreversible injury instead of transient, reversible trauma. The more research that appears asks more questions and, so far, fewer answers.
