Irresponsible gun owners, and these are the ones that have passed a background check I hope. They don't check IQ's in the background check. There should be a law for being stupid with a gun when they are around other people. How irresponsible as a country are we going to be with guns until we do something.

Hopefully these clowns lose the firearm and face full weight of the law for getting caught committing a Federal felony.

With all of these dangerous guns in the hands of travelers I suppose we should also expand the TSA so they can cover all train stations, bus terminals, car rental businesses, cruise ships, ferries, and RV parks. The fact that this bloated, ineffective and un-constitutional agency is still operating 5 years after GW left office should be an embarrassment to Obama and his supporters.

Why aren't there armed police or soldiers in US airports??? We saw armed military in French train stations in Paris and Nice this fall. Soldiers with sub machine guns. Why not US airports??? If TSA discovers a bad guy what can they do about it, unarmed???? There should be a dozen soldiers or police with semi auotmatics in all US airports.

chablis28: "Why aren't there armed police or soldiers in US airports??? Create a total police state. In the name of safety of course.

Have one simple rule, "If you are found with a gun on your person attempting to board a commercial airplane, you will be kicked out of the security check lanes and will no longer be allowed to book a flight with that airline for which you booked the flight" or to make it a harsher penalty, "you will never be allowed to book a flight on any U.S. Commercial airline again" I guarantee you that people will both stop trying and will be far more diligent with their baggage packing. The game has to be done. This situation today could have never been prevented unless you start screening people before they even walk into the airport.

If your goal is to deploy more armed police and soldiers to more locations in the name of safety then why not expand your idea to more and more locations in order to create a blanket of total security?

I would sincerely like to see a breakdown of the various reasons these people gave for having such loaded guns on them. Would "I forgot I had it there/loaded/loaded-with-one-ready" be number one, or would a more aggressive response, such as "I don't feel safe without it and thought I could get it past security" come in first? And how many of those who were caught became defensive or even belligerent when confronted? It seems to me such statistics would be more telling than the useless ones given in the article.

chablis28 Why aren't there armed police or soldiers in US airports???--------- You must not fly or don't see them for some reason. US Airports have their own police force that does have automatic weapons. They are all over the airport. Many of the officers are in plain clothes. And I also believe the FBI is there.
