"Pitino shrugged and laughed. “What’s that going to do except keep me up at night?” he said." I hope he can keep that attitude. keep it in perspective, realize that 100 hours a week won't make you any better than 40, and most importantly, make it fun for you and your team. Do that and the fans will have fun also. Bill G.

I liked Tubby, but I am not sure his teams were having fun. That is important. If you are always uptight about running a certain play or following a certain style and little is allowed for just plain fun basketball ceases to be fun.

I don't really have any great expectations for the basketball program this year; however, I look forward to a change from the, over-all dismal performances of other Minnesota sports.

I am looking forward to a coach that can teach his players, not glare at them like he hates them.

We now have a good football coach. It will be fun to see if we have a good basketball coach. Brewster was undoubtedly terrible. Tubby was only mediocre and a disappointment. Go Gophers!

I think this season is going to be exciting. Unlike the Tubby era it will be nice to see the team improve through out the year and not only be self motivating but be motivated by an energetic coach....GO GOPHERS!!!

Sure, it was a gamble for the U to go with Pitino but why not? He brings a different style of play, new energy and enthusiasm, and a willingness to dream big. Certainly a refreshing change and hopefully one that will get him a few wins this year. I already like what I see in his player development approach. As a season ticket holder with a clear view of the Gopher bench, it was painful to watch Tubby and his crew the past year or two because there appeared to be confusion on the sidelines and a lack of energy. It was also painful to watch players like Colton Iverson, Ralph Sampson, Julian Welch, and Rodney actually regress as they got older. Go Pitino! Go Gophers!

Great comments here . . looking forward to the season with reasonable expectations: improving throughout the year, running an actual offense (including real inbounds plays), and playing good team defense being the main ones.

I would think other Big10 teams would like playing against the Gophers because of their style of play because come playoffs, so many other teams play this "up tempo" style. It will give them a chance to "practice" during the regular season. I also think the Gophers will run some other teams into the ground with this full court press and up tempo ball handling. I just hope that the Gophers will win enough games to be playoff bound. Once there, they could really shine.

He might be a nice guy. But his team has nothing to show as of yet. Let's see what teams record is on feb, 27.
