As an Excel ratepayer and stockholder, I object to being assessed for these payments, so that my neighbors can show me how eco friendly they are. Decorating a roof with solar panels has little net benefit for the environment.

As I object to paying for roads that others drive many more miles on than i do, rolflindy. This includes those nasty, big, semi trucks, which profit on the very roads I pay for. I object as a XCEL ratepayer to poison the only planet we live on. We all share one planet and it needs to be a healthy planet so if your neighbors are smart enough to invest in solar and are willing to help you and the planet out rolflindy, we should be thanking them.

I like the new proposal just fine. Structuring it as an ongoing benefit based on actual production has the right incentives to keep the array online and working for at least 10 years. And lower incentives make sense, as solar prices continue to drop. What I'd really like to see is a 5-year plan for solar, so that businesses & consumers can make a plan for the long-ish term. By then, I imagine it'll be so cost effective it'll be almost a no-brainer, and the utilities will be figuring out how to work in the brave new world of distributed power generation. When mainstream companies like Slumberland are putting up 400kW this year alone, I think we've reached a tipping point.
