Souhan: Brewer returns to Wolves as stopper on defense

Corey Brewer looks the same. He can still dive head-first through a chain-link fence without scratching anything but ears and toes, and he still plays defense like a caffeinated TSA agent conducting a patdown.

We're still on the "Brewer is a great defender" thing? He's a great havoc-creator and stealer of the ball, but his on-ball defense continues to stink. There were at least a half dozen times vs. the Magic that his man blew right by him. It's as though he's waiting for help defense when it's the wrong defensive set to do so. Don't get me wrong, he's useful and has his place, and he does appear to have learned to use leverage better (as he did on Afflalo's attempt at the end of regulation), but let's not call him a great defender.

Wow. More great insight from Jim Souhan.

Brewer was the 2nd best Wolves player last night but agree with Docenzo - our eyes deceive us and tell us that Brewer’s motor make him an elite defender. The statistics say he generates a lot of turnovers but plenty of fouls as well and his rebounding is weak. Happy the Wolves have a player who gives 100% every night and his spastic energy is more polished now that he clearly understands his role.

Welcome back Corey B! Love the energy and the attitude. And sometimes that "chaos creation" is just what's needed.
