Shouldn't the NRA be going after a repeal of #6 (plugs for shotguns)? That regulation is a blatant violation of my Second Amendment rights.

More well-intentioned hunters are running afoul of the ever-increasing number of laws DNR and the legislature are putting on the books. And despite the hunters' honest intentions, they face jail, fines, confiscation of their trucks, cars and boats, restitution penalties to DNR, and loss of hunting privileges for 3 years (including in 37 other states) or more. The results have been devastating to many sportsmen who are careful and ethical hunters. It's time for a moratorium on DNR and legislative regulations.

Hunting laws have become pretty convoluted. But most of the issues cited in this article are pretty blatantly the fault of scoff-laws. Fishing laws however, have become positively byzantine! You practically have to have an attorney and a secret-decoder-ring to decipher them: "No fishing for (species) between the hours of noon to noon, except during a leap-year, between (latitude - longitude & altitude), yet not more than 12 hrs after the last full moon phase, unless you wear yellow socks and are always within 30ft of a DNR employee. And even if you somehow manage to catch one, you can't keep it. And even if you could keep it, in the places we actually deign to let you fish, they are toxic with mercury." Good luck, Sportsmen!

All the more reason to not participate. Please publish for us the MN DNR budgets going back 40 years... adjusted for inflation. You'll be shocked at the amount of money these folks smoke through in a year.

#10. HWI - visitors to Bemidji on Opening Weekend should know that the local law requires all drunk drivers to wear orange.

Why is the MN DNR issuing tickets to hunters who lack a federal waterfowl stamp? It's a federal stamp not a MN stamp. Let the feds enforce compliance for their own stamps and quit wasting state funds on this nonsense.

"So what exactly was the hunter in #1 supposed to do? Let the deer go and die and be wasted?" ********* STEP 1, contact owner of property and ask permission to retrieve deer. If permission is denied go to next step. STEP 2, Call DNR to report situation and they may come out to confiscate deer. The warden will then donate it to a food shelf. Keep in mind that the property owner cannot keep the deer if he didn't legally take it. At least that's the way it works in Wisconsin.

Remember the old Les Kouba print of hunters walking through a cornfield? Old Les (may he rest in peace) would nowadays probably get a ticket for hunting over bait under the current law. The proliferation of hunting laws has gotten out of hand. So make an additional seat on your deer stand or in your duck blind for your lawyer. You may need him or her there to advise you.
