Buzzer-beating loss to Pistons ends Wolves' preseason

AUBURN HILLS, MICH. – The Timberwolves flew home after Thursday night’s last-second, preseason-ending 99-98 loss at Detroit confident that they will no longer be the NBA’s worst three-point shooting team this season, not by that proverbial long shot.

The game plan for every team in the NBA will be quite simple this season: pound the ball inside and take it to the rim. There will be NO ONE there to contest it. Plus, with Love and Pek (though Pek didn't play tonight because he's already injured!), the Wolves will be among the top three slowest teams in terms of getting back on defense. Oh dear! Adjust your hopes, Wolves fans. Capturing the 8th seed is not a given.

Snoozecruise1, obvious troll is obvious. Pekovic didn't play tonight because it's a meaningless preseason game, hence why Adelman had Cunningham and Turiaf in the starting rotation.

pmd131, try to keep up with Jerry Z; sometimes he has two or three articles posted on the Wolves. Pek was held out as a precautionary measure because of a thigh contusion he suffered in the Philadelphia game. Perhaps he would have played had it been a regular season game. Point is, he is already injured, and his injury history is a big concern. Signing for the big bucks does not mean he will be able to play for 70 games. Make 57 appearances is more likely to be the reality. Trolling? Perhaps next time, you'll want to read before posting. Watching the game also helps.

Brewer was one for five, I believe, from three-point land and threw a pass that ended up in the second row, which is a five row improvement from his first stint with the Wolves. Those who were less than thrilled with his signing--and I admit I was pretty pleased that we got him based on what he did in Denver last year--might be on to something. Of course, it's early, yet...

It was a mistake to let the Steamer go and sign Turiaf. Steamer can hit some shots and block some, too. Turiaf does not have that ability.

Never said Pek wasn't "injured", although a bruised thigh is hardly a serious injury. But him not playing had more to do with it still being the preseason than him not actually being able to play. It was a precautionary measure, like you said. I also don't see how you think Love could be slow. He's pretty agile for a big man. Are you saying he's slow to get back on defense because he complains after every no-call on offense? That I might have to agree with.

Ugh. Can't we wait until the season starts before we start talking irrational nonsense ?

I watched the game on the internet, listening to the Piston's announcers. They won it with their starters for the regular season in the game against the Wolve's bench players. They won it on a lucky shot, with the Piston players and announcers making it out to be a great victory. To think that this is how it is going to be during the regular season is rediculous.

Ugh, where to start ? Steamer ? He was one of the biggest hacks in the league. In about 16 minutes of game time he averaged 2.5 fouls ! Who cares if you can block shots if you're giving up freebies at the line all the time ? The game plan for every team in the NBA will be to pound the Wolves inside ? I sincerely hope a team like the Knicks...completely changes their strategy of launching lots of 3's decides to actually go and try to pound it inside with their awesome post players and half court drivers. Blanket assumptions on what you think every team would try and do to the Wolves is absolutely ludicrous...teams have their individual offensive strategies that they'll try to work regardless of opponent...with the caveat of possible tweaks based on what the opposing defense is doing. Evan Turner ? It would cost the Wolves too much to get him. Williams or a combo of players that would leave us with less depth in other places.
