ST. PAUL, Minn. — A protracted fight over the name and logo of football's Washington Redskins prompted a request Thursday that Minnesota stadium officials take special steps when the team comes to town next month for a nationally televised game.

If Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority has any integrity whatsoever, it will from this point on refrain from displaying or using the name "Redskins". The Vikings, Wilfs and the stadium should conduct a logo blackout at the stadium. There is not a better place to serve as a start for a league wide rejection of the racist and derogatory mascot and logo.

Political Correctness is for COWARDS. This name was always about honoring the Indian culture.

Thank you for the story. The "R" word is a racist discriminatory slur that has no place in a publicly funded and publicly operated facility where indigenous people and all people bring their children. It is also illegal for State employees and officers to allow discrimination and harassment under international, federal, state, county and city laws protecting people from discrimination on the basis of race, creed, color, religion and national origin - which all apply to indigenous people.

As a FBI {full blooded Indian}, I think this is blown way out there. Why now with this nonsense. No one was bitching when they won their superbowls. If you took a poll of just natives you would be amazed to find out what an HONOR this has been, and is. The Wash. DC. franchise could have had any awesome name they desired and they are not in the business of embarrassing themselves. I am a proud 100 percent Sioux and proud to have franchises that consider us as tough as nails, which we are.

Go start building something for jobs, the economy, spy gate, fix the broke done USA from socialism. Skip the team nicknames, totally a wasted time effort.

Another solution looking for a problem IMHO. No problem here. I am proud of my Native American ancestors, our native heritage and also proud of the sports teams that emulate our culture and warrior courage by using these names. I would think even a fool can see the teams teams did not take on these names in a derogatory manner.
