Study: Flu shots may also ward off heart attacks, strokes

Get a flu shot to ward off a case of influenza, and as an added bonus you’ll reduce your risk of a heart attack, stroke or other type of unpleasant “cardiovascular event,” a new study finds.

Sounds more like not having the flu wards off heart attacks and strokes. Immunization, of course, diminishes the chance of getting the flu, but doesn't assure it. Staying home for five months is probably a better preventative for the flu, and thus the heart attack.

Is this cause or correlation? Does getting flu shots reduce heart attacks and strokes, or do those who like flu shots live healthier lifestyles otherwise? Whether the researchers controlled for these variables is unclear from the article.
