Another nice spin on a situation that is not getting any better and probably will get worse in the next year or two.

How does a government shutdown in October, that most people didn't even see coming, affect home sales in September? What a bunch of baloney. This slowdown is the result of higher mortgage rates and higher home prices, plain and simple.

People also need to realize that some realtors are still inflating the size of houses through a variety of mechanisms. I've seen houses that have been inflated, size wise, by over 1000 square feet. That means that a house that in reality is 1,500 sq. ft. is put on the market as 2,500 sq. ft. or a 2,500 sq. ft. house is listed as 3,500 sq. ft.

Sales are down because houses are still ridiculously expensive. $20,000-$70,000 and we'll talk. My grandparents paid somewhere around $8,000 for their brand-new house in 1939.
