Rand: What's missing for the Vikings? Percy Harvin, for one

  • Article
  • Updated: October 18, 2013 - 6:38 AM

Let’s be clear: The biggest difference between the 2012 Vikings, who started 4-1, and the 2013 Vikings, who started 1-4, is defense.

Doesn't help when coaches let Patterson sit on the sidelines while team struggles.

tcstunnerOct. 18, 13 3:38 AM

Funny....I didn't know Harvin played CB, SS or LB. Who knew. Unless he plays defense I'm pretty sure we are not missing him. Before the last game the offense was averaging damn near 30pts a game. WR is the LAST position the Vikes are worried about.

Sure they may be better but when are we going to see them on the field? Put Jennings, Patterson, Simpson and Rudolph out there and spread it out. This gives AP a chance to run and opens the field up. I also have a question, why can other rookie wide receivers come in and make an a contribution right away but the Viking WR'S-Patterson-have to sit and "learn the offense" Could that be coaching?

This is the second article from Strib in the last 24 hours to make this argument. For having an office so close to the stadium you don't seem to watch a lot of games. Harvin's absence has nothing, not one thing to do with the 1-4 start this year. The problem has been inconsistent QB play and horrid defense. The WR's are doing their jobs as well as they can and the loss of Harvin is really a non-issue.

Percy can't stay healthy. What we need is an improved defense and an NFL quality quarterback.

minnymnOct. 18, 1310:18 AM

News Flash- Harvin isn't playing anywhere. He pulled his usual stunt on the Seahawks and waited until the season was about to start to have a procedure done. He loves to get paid while sitting on the bench. He probably doesn't even make it to Seahawks games.

cjj0017Oct. 18, 1311:01 AM

I'm sorry but I can't buy the excuse that Harvin isn't here anymore, you said it yourself the overall WRs are better this year. Now if you want to argue that the WRs aren't being used correctly, or enough then fine I'll agree with that all day. Of course poor QB play doesn't help any WR, doesn't matter who you are.

rtorstensonOct. 18, 1311:10 AM

Kind of a dumb article, when the guy rarely plays anyway. Defense and the offensive line are the primary culprits; a more accurate qb wouldn't hurt either.

klinlaOct. 18, 1311:30 AM

Let's see. Defense is terrible. Offensive line hasn't showed up for one game. No consistency at QB. The play calling is vanilla.(At least Freeman will have no trouble learning the play book. Peterson left, Peterson right, throw deep down field, Punt. Percy is a head case and locker room distraction. Other than that, your right on, Rand.

remember when everyone was saying how Rick pulled a fast one on the seachickens w/ the Harvin trade? another ex viking(Mckinney)...good guys do finish last in the NFC central. SCORE BOARD RICKY!
