Truely a visionary and forward thinker. None is sure it has worked in the US.

I really enjoy some of Phyllis' ideas. I don't know if you limit it to a maximum of 5% ownership that you could find 20 people that would want to participate. There's a reason why private industry hasn't funded an orchestra already, but Phyllis is probably just unaware.

From management's perspective, the problem is a large and growing gap between what people will pay to hear musicians play, and what the musicians think they are worth. From the musicians' perspective, the problem is a lack of artistic control and a lack of money. With this proposal, there is still a lack of money to operate the orchestra, unless "the community" is really taxpayers on the hook for topping up musician salaries. So how exactly does this solve the problem?

Wait a minute, the reason the orchestra is out is because they are losing money and the accountants have said that salary reductions are required to maintain financial viability. So is PK suggesting that the state take ownership, pay the musicians their requested salaries and now the state tax payers subsidize the loss? After the pull tab debacle this governor will probably go for it. Phyllis you have outdone yourself, your a bloody genius.

This is nothing more than a campaign trick. She knows this would never work.

BAD IDEA! Typical liberal wanting to take something that does not make economic sense and turn it into a public endeavor so we can all be on the hook to pay for it forever. The marketplace has spoken, we can't support an orchestra. Or at least not an orchestra paid as well as the players want to be paid. The market will determine what orchestra we have here. Don't turn this into another public gopher hole into which we pour millions and millions.

Yay! Something else for the democrats to support that can't support itself! Even with a packed house, the Orchestra loses $20,000 per performance because it can't charge enough to cover its cost. So, yeah, of course, the Minnesota dems want to step in. There is no better argument for term limits than Phyllis Kahn.

Great job of thinking outside of the box... but No Thank You. Let the private sector handle this.
