Tom was also the go-to guy in the neighborhood. When someone was down on his luck and needed a place to stay, Tom's trailer probably had a tenant for a while. The local yard man got lots of referrals from Tom, and a weekly job, too. When we needed a place for a Block Club party, Tom power-washed his deck and made sure the house-bound neighbor got a full plate of potluck lunch. You don't see many "just friends" memorial services that overflow the room any more. Tom's did.

This is sad news. I was about to contact him for some work, as he was the one person in town who I'd been told could do it.
