Third string sounds good to me for Ponder. As for Freeman who knows, the Vikes haven't done a stellar job in picking quarterbacks. That being said the coach in Tampa sounds like a bit of a wack job and maybe Freeman will be a steal, who knows.

The style of play that TB coach instilled was the deep up for grab toss, I'm not kidding he not Josh destroyed that offense. Freeman is a steal for the Vikes even the lions, bears and Packers are freaking on this deal. Freeman will be the QB of our future but for right now we need to win. Give em hell Matt

What another $3 million for another QB. This will make four QB for the Vikings! Not sure what the strategy is now! Four QB means that someone other then Freeman will be release!

This shows complete and utter panic in the Viking's brain trust. They have three capable QB's before Freeman... and Don't forget the roster spot Webb is taking up. Five guys that have NFL experience at QB..on one team. Yikes MCCloud Bethel Thompson may be the most hidden raw talent QB in the league. He reminds me of the other # 4 that played her a couple years ago. They will cut him and he will come back to haunt us in the future.

No panic by the Vikings on this deal. If they would have traded for Freeman then maybe you could say that. But signing him for 3 Mil and not giving anything else up for him is a no brainer for the Vikings at this point and certainly worth a try. I hope Freeman pans out...Vikings are do for that kind of luck aren't they?

This reminds me of the Jay Cutler and Josh McDaniels feud in Denver before Cutler was traded to Chicago. Chicago gave up really good draft picks to get Cutler however. It's not going to get any better than this for the Vikings to potentially improve their situation at quarterback at this time in the season.

The key to might be Craig Johnson, the quarterback coach, getting the best out of Freeman. Johnson was there for Steve McNair and Vince Young's best seasons. Freeman has something that Ponder and Cassel do not have--the physical talent to throw any pass needed. The remaining issue has to do with behavior, emotional control, and responsibility. The competition here will be between Cassel and Freeman. If Ponder were cut, he might not even get picked up by another team. Think about that.

Ponder actually thinks he's still the starter? I thought he was intelligent! If the coaches and management thought that, Freeman would be somewhere else. The big question is: "How will they justify inserting Freeman if Cassel continues to win and have a 123 QB rating?"

I'd rather see Spielman trying to find defensive help at linebacker and cornerback at this point in their season. We've put up enough points to be 4-0 if only our defense would show up.

I won't feel relieved until Ponder has been dumped from the roster and we've finally broke ties with that anchor of a QB. He has no business starting in the NFL. Sounds like this is the best we're going to get from Spielman as an admittance of his first-round failure. Give Cassel the start, as he's earned it. Then work Freeman in when he learns the offense, or Cassel starts playing poorly. Now, if we only had a secondary..
