That federal land your duck stamp bought is closed. In October. And nobody in Congress asked. Or cares.

No offense Dennis, but the WPA aren't guarded, and I want to hunt one, chances are no one is going ot say anything to me.

sstafkiOct. 3, 13 9:29 PM

You all need to stay home and away from the WPA's - don't let me catch you out on one! Seriously, if all the Feds are unemployed, who is going to stop you?

ruphinaOct. 3, 1310:44 PM

take the wife, the kids, go with a veteran, and go in a large group (symbolic, not actual hunting), and dare the feds to arrest all of you. Call your congressman (I did). Not too surprisingly, none of the 3 different persons manning the phones for the DC offices of Ellison, Franken, and Amy had ever heard of either WPAs or Pittman-Robinson, and 2 of them had never heard of a duck stamp. The 3rd thought it was just an art contest. Bill G.

ruphina - seriously dude... dare to show some intelligence. The "persons manning the phones" are not required to know everything about everything. After all, you don't either. = = = Dennis Anderson is right, the GOPTea that is the cause of this government shutdown does NOT care about regular people. They are simply threatening other GOP congresspeople with primary challenges from the Regressive Far Right unless they get their way. It's called extortion. And all over a health care bill passed by both houses, signed by the President, upheld by the Supreme Court, re-affirmed in national 2012 elections, and why??? According to the GOPTea themselves, all because they ARE AFRAID PEOPLE WILL LIKE IT. So please... this shutdown is about GOPTea greed and their willingness to destroy the economy to get their way. It's pathetic.

This is a government shutdown - it's supposed to hurt. Too many people are under the impression that "as long as it only hurts someone else, it's fine," but the hurt is what's supposed to get folks mad enough to get the lawmakers do grow up and do their jobs. Remember who caused this mess next election cycle (like it or not, the ACA is passed law and this is not the way to change laws).

How long would this "shutdown" last if petitions started being routed for recall referundums against all congressional members for non-performance of duties?

EleanoreOct. 4, 13 8:02 AM

"How long would this "shutdown" last if petitions started being routed for recall referundums against all congressional members for non-performance of duties?" - I'd think just one for the chief executive would do it, but doing congress too would be a bigger accomplishment in progress.

It takes more resources to shut down this land to the public than to leave it open. This isn't a national park with a permit booth, this is open land where people are free to enter at anytime. Closing it, much like the open plaza WWII Memorial, is a spiteful political move by the executive branch.

ericgus55Oct. 4, 13 9:41 AM

Just as there should be no exemptions to the ACA for big businesses, there should be no exceptions to the shutdown for hunters on Federal land (or veterans, lawmakers salaries, or anyone else). Unfortunately, that means the federal land must be closed. Mad about it?? Good, do something. Asking for an exception doesn't count, though, because that's not a solution.

ericgus55Oct. 4, 13 9:44 AM

A "spiteful move by the executive branch"?? No, it's following the law. Don't like the law? There's a Constitutionally-prescribed process to change it which must be followed.
