Why not just tranquilize the animal and relocate it to a more preferrable habitat? Seems more logical than opening a gate when traffic slows down and hoping the deer avoids getting hit by a vehicle and finds it's new habitat.

On Friday, 9/20 at about 8:30 AM, I saw a buck with a very similar description walking NE inside the RR track fencing that runs along the Cedar Lake Bike Trail. Saw it from my office at the Colonial Warehouse in North Loop. Maybe same buck came down the tracks from Cedar Lake or Theo Wirth?

Jeezo beezo, deer can swim for miles across big and fast water, he will go when he feels the need, to speed it up sprinkle some "Doe-in-Heat" nearby.

Why not shoot it like you do every time a domestic farm animal gets loose in the city? Or, are deer somehow special?

Please. Do not kill the buck!

dre2207.....if you tranquilize it, it may panic and cause more problems. Its not like it will just fall over the minute the dart hits him. It takes time and he could end up swimming out in the river and drowning once the stuff takes effect.

I'm sure the MPD would be happy to shoot it. They are all practiced up on pets. Ya, it's only funny because it's true!

It'd be nice if they could close the road for a short while to give it a little better chance of a safe getaway.

This did happen before and in the same exact place. I believe it was back in 2000 or 2001 there was a deer (not a buck) that was stuck in the same spot next to the locks. I am surprized noone else has said anything because it was quite dangerous at the time.
