Richard K. Davis needs to resign as the head of the management committee and also as CEO of US Bank. He has shown such ineffective leadership in the orchestra dispute that the the reputation of the bank is damaged goods as well. Good riddance.

Well, they can go ahead and pack their bags. They have effectively said they do not plan to work for this orchestra. Let them go, and let this orchestra start over with musicians who are willing to work for the salaries this orchestra and market are able to support.

The musicians were right to reject the proposal. With the lack of trust between the musicians and the Board, any proposal needs to go through the Board's mediator. Why this proposal was first leaked to the Strib is puzzling.

Good for the musicians. This is union busting. According to the Board, super-rich individuals and ever higher profiting corporations from which the leaders of the Orchestra Board come from mustn't be expected to do with less higher profits in order to sustain working musicians and a high quality orchestra, rather, musicians should take much less pay.

They did the right thing. Diminishing salaries over a 3 year period would turn the Minnesota Orchestra into a "feeder" orchestra with high musician turnover faster than you can blink.

Would the musicians know a good deal if they saw one? Other than full pay plus a signing bonus? Reminds me of Eastern Airlines in the 1980s. Flight attendants went on strike. The airline was grounded......and never flew again. Sometimes the improbable DOES happen !

Corporations do not like negative publicity. When Osmo leaves, a lot of anger is going to be directed to Richard Davis and US Bank. That should be interesting.

Can the board either work with the mediator it chose, or explain to us why George Mitchell can't be trusted to mediate this dispute?
