Money given to city mayoral candidates should only come from that city. Money given to state candidates should only come from that state. It's a simple way to cut the obscene amounts of money spent to influence elections, especially by national single agenda groups. But politicians won't vote to enact such a rule because they are addicted to all the money and influence. They are all, democrats and republicans, pathetic grovelers doing the bidding, not of the people or the good of the country, but of their rich donors and their own greed.

Independent expenditure groups are a disturbing trend in politics - especially in a mayoral race. Voters not deep pockets should make decisions.

At least now we know which candidate is just a puppet of corporate and party forces. Mark Andrew is straight out of central casting for "progressive mayor". He looks like the offspring of Robert Redford and Ed Begly Jr. This guy spends more money on hair brushes than half of Minneapolis makes all year.

birchtree: "Money given to city mayoral candidates should only come from that city." ------I'm fine with that, as long as cities only spend their own money on projects. When the mayor and city council make decisions that the rest of the state, country have to pay for, those people should be able to support a particular candidate.

An example would be the city's plans for a trolley where they are going to seek $140 million from sources outside of the city.

"birchtree-Money given to city mayoral candidates should only come from that city. Money given to state candidates should only come from that state" So does that mean we are going to stop taxing visitors and downtown workers extra or that Minneapolis is going to turn down county, state and federal aid?

Andrew's time has passed, it's time for some new leadership. I think ranked choice voting will change the tenor of the elections and the money that flows into them. I don't believe pouring money into a campaign will be an effective tactic.
